Long-Term Care Referrals Registry
The Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) requires advisors and other professionals who are compensated for providing long-term care referrals to register with DHS every two years.
Referral advisors must meet certain disclosure requirements, including providing consumers with information about their compensation practices, and whether they share a consumer's personal information.
Placement & Referral Agent Requirements
Oregon law requires all compensated placement and referral agents to meet the following requirements before operating in the state.
Must be registered by DHS
All referral advisors and professionals compensated for long-term care referrals must register with the Oregon Department of Human Services every two years.
Must submit and pass a Criminal Background Check
A criminal background check is required before an advisor may operate. This helps ensure consumer safety and trust in the referral process.
Carry General Liability Insurance
Registered advisors are required to maintain general liability insurance coverage, protecting both the advisor and the families they serve.
Are Mandatory Reporters
Referral advisors are legally designated as mandatory reporters of suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of seniors and vulnerable adults.
Must personally pre-view any community they refer
Before referring a family to any care community, advisors are required to have personally visited and evaluated the community to ensure it meets appropriate standards.
Must provide a full Disclosure Statement to consumers
Advisors must disclose how they are compensated, whether they share a consumer's personal information, and any other material relationships with the communities they recommend.
